The following information accompanies the meadow thistle linoprint :

The meadow thistle cirsium dissectum (or feochadfán móna as gaeilge) is a very long, slender and surprisingly delicate flower for a thistle!

This native Irish plant is much loved by bees and other insects making them extremely important in the ecosystem.  Thistles, like the meadow thistle, are the larval foodplants of the Painted Lady Butterfly.

The meadow thistle is, unfortunately endangered – it is on Ireland’s red list for vascular plants.

The following information accompanies the marsh saxifrage linoprint :

The marsh saxifrage saxifraga hirculus is an endangered native Irish plant. Once found in abundance throughout Europe but now only rarely found.

In Ireland, the marsh saxifrage has reduced significantly and today has been identified in County Antrim, County Mayo and County Sligo. The removal of peat, afforestation, over grazing and drainage all contribute to this decline.

The following information accompanies the lesser centaury linoprint :

Lesser centaury (centaurium pulchellum) or dréimire beag as gaeilge.

Lesser centaury (centaurium pulchellum) or dréimire beag as gaeilge is a protected native irish plant.

This tiny wildflower is found in grassy open areas, sand dunes, salt marshes and cliffs.

It can be identified by its five (sometimes four) pink petals. It doesn’t have leaves at the base but rather has oval leaves that appear in opposite pairs along the narrow stem. It rarely grows any higher then 10cms and flowers between June and August.
